Die Nubbelverbrennung ist ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis, das den Kölner Karneval in seiner ganzen Vielfalt widerspiegelt. Sie ist eine Art Zeremonie, mit der die Karnevalisten gemeinsam das Ende der fünften Jahreszeit feiern. Zahlreiche Jecke treffen sich am Abend des Veilchendienstags vor den Kölner Kneipen mit dem Ziel, durch die Verbrennung des Nubbels von ihren Sünden befreit zu werden, welche sie während des Karnevals begangen haben.
The Nubbel burning is a very special experience that reflects the Cologne Carnival in all its diversity. It is a kind of ceremony with which carnivalists celebrate the end of the fifth season together. Numerous revelers gather in front of Cologne's pubs on the evening of Shrove Tuesday with the goal of being absolved of the sins they committed during Carnival by burning the Nubbel.
